Summer Reading Opportunities

This summer we have a lot going on. Make sure that you keep up with all of the books you read and you will have a lot of awards for continuing to read throughout the summer. Take a look at what you can do to earn prizes from Jefferson Parkway, Barnes & Noble, The A. Mitchell Powell Public Library (formerly known as the Newnan-Coweta Public Library), and Scholastic.

Jefferson Parkway
Fill out the form I sent home (or keep up with the books you read on a piece of paper). Get a parent to initial each book and turn the list in to your new homeroom teacher in August. You will then be invited to our Summer Readers' Party in August. There will be food and prizes for all who are invited! You can read magazines, newspapers, or even books from websites listed on this website.

Barnes & Noble
Read 8 books (from home, library or bookstores) and write down those books. Take the list in to Barnes & Noble to receive a free book! This year they are allowing you to do this twice, so if you read 16 books, you can get two free books!

The A. Mitchell Powell Public Library (25 Hospital Road)
I sent home information about the many activities at the Powell Library. Check out their webpage for more information. Their reading program allows you to read 10 books to get a packet of coupons for food from Chick-Fil-A, Waffle House, Texas Roadhouse, etc., as well as other prizes. Sponsors for this summer's programs are Chick-fil-A, IHOP Restaurants, Kiwanis International, Steak 'n Shake, Target, Texas Roadhouse, and Waffle House.

Scholastic'sRead for the World Record
Join together with other kids from JPES to read as many books as you can over the summer. Here you can log the number of minutes you spend reading and keep track of how other schools are doing. The top 20 schools will be featured in the 2010 Scholastic Book of World Records, along with the total minutes read by ALL participating schools. On this site you’ll also find fun games and challenging brainteasers to share with friends! Go to http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/record/ to register!

AR BookFind
Check out this website to find out if there is an Accelerated Reader Quiz for the books you read this summer. Make sure you remember what the books are about. You may want to get a little notebook and write down some of the main points so that you can take a quiz when we get back to school in August.
