The Coweta County School System Professional Learning program has three levels — individual, school, and district wide. The focus on all three levels is on improving student achievement. Individual and building level professional development plans are aligned with the district’s initiatives and goals. Suggested activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Book Talks / studies
- Peer coaching
- Study Groups
- Workshops
- Conferences
- Action Research
- Professional Learning and Presenters
- Designing of Curriculum
In an effort to promote professional development as an ongoing process the Individual Learning Log (click here to download) has been designed to document experiences for Certified Staff (only) that do not fit into the typical PLU course format and that we usually do not record for credit. Examples of learning experiences that may be documented on your log include the following:
- Full-day or half-day workshops, seminars, conferences (less than 10 contact hours) that do not provide PLU credit
- Local school professional learning activities where curriculum issues are discussed, test data analyzed, teaching strategies are explored, etc.
- District office meetings with embedded learning activities
- Peer observations and peer coaching
- Study groups, book studies
When using an Individual Learning Log, you will not have to request permission through the Office of Professional Learning. The only requirement is your administrator/supervisor’s approval. For every ten (10) hours of documented learning experiences you can earn one (1) professional learning unit (PLU).
REGULATIONS:
Your administrator/supervisor must sign and approve each log that is submitted to the Office of Professional Learning for verification and posting on your PLU transcript.
The State Department of Education prohibits the awarding of partial credit. For example, an educator may accumulate 23 hours of documented and verified learning, but only two PLU’s may be awarded (increments of 10 hours accepted). Credit may not be awarded more than once; therefore, there is no need to use the Individual Learning Log for regular professional learning courses.
Jefferson Parkway Professional Development Activities:
The following activities are professional development opportunities that may be logged in your PLU Learning Log. Be sure that Mr. Sanborn or Dr. McCloud sign off on your PLU log.
